Hellooo!
...and welcome to all things musical in the life of Robin May ~ that's me :)
I'm self-employed and split my time between educating and making music. You'll find more info on me and my story within 'The Performer' section but, if 'a picture speaks a thousand words', you may simply like to see the gallery below to get a feel for who I am.
...and, "Yes" - I have spent much of my life with a guitar in hand!
Please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Teaching is my passion
I'm approaching my 30th year of teaching guitar and don't believe I will ever stop: I genuinely feel chirpier after every single lesson…it's almost like it chose me!
I provide one-to-one guitar tuition from my home in Arnside, Cumbria as well as online guitar lessons via Skype; so you can have 1-2-1 guitar lessons with an experienced guitar teacher and working musician, wherever you are in the world.
Within my site you'll also find easy to understand music theory for guitarists including: what is a scale?, how to work out scales, which chords to use, how chords are created, what modes are and where to find modal scale positions.
Live improv in the UK & online
I don't just teach, I love to play live and specialise in live-looping improvisation. I perform my (100% original music) online show several times a week. Get in touch if you'd like to book me to perform at your venue / event.
For me it's all about delivering a different performance every time. My shows are a bit like snowflakes: They may seem similar but every single one is unique.
I create compositions to explore music, often using unusual and exotic scales and modes. I loop those compositions, live, and then improvise over the loops. I like to vary the way I approach the basic themes and lean heavily on a variety of effects to modulate the sounds I create with my accoustic and electric guitars. You can watch me on YouTube
