How to play 'Stubborn Love' by The Lumineers, in G

This version is in the key of G. The vocals begin on the third beat of a bar, over a C.

Here are the  chords for each section:

Verse:

| G / / / | / / C / | Em / / / | / / C / |

| G / / / | / / C / | Em / D / |

Bridge:

| C / Em / | D / G / |

Chorus:

| C / / / | Em / / / | D / / / | G / / / |

I tend to sit on a bar (sometimes longer) of G immediately before each section.

I follow the format:

Verse-Bridge
Verse-Bridge
Chorus
Verse-Bridge
Chorus

I play the D with the third (F#) 'in the bass', on the 6th string. It is probably more accurate to call it an F#/D. Here is the tab:

x
3
2
0
x
Or open - try both
2

Below is the strumming pattern.

UPPERCASE = Strike the strings
lowercase = move your hand but don't strike the strings.
D and d = down
U and u = up

I play this fast, so I strum from my wrist more than my elbow. The first Down-stroke emphasises the bass strings, whilst the second is focussed more on the thinner strings and is stronger.

D, u, D, u, D, U, D, U
