How to play 'Guaranteed' by Eddie Vedder, in G

As far as fingering is concerned, it will be easiest to regard the chords as being G - Bm - A#major7 - Am7 - C - G - D

However, this isn't factually correct.

Let me explain:

F/Dm is an A#Maj7 without the A# note - giving us Dm with an F note (the flattened 3rd in a Dm) in the bass (on the 4th string). Similarly, E/C is an Am7 without the A (which you'd normally have with the 5th string open, but we're not playing the 5th string) ~ so it's a C chord with the E (major 3rd from C chord) in the bass (on the 4th string). If you're just reading this then that may seem confusing ~ I suggest you read it again whilst you have your guitar in hand, and follow what I've written step-by-step.

I form the first three chords as if they are barre chords, but only fret the top one or two strings with the index finger of my left hand, rather than barring them all. You need to explore what works for you ~ physically. Always consider being stable and comfortable ~ be conscious about how you play.

The chord progression remains the same throughout:

| G / / / | Bm / / / | F/Dm / / / | E/C / / / |
| C / / / | G / / / | D / Dsus2 / | D / Dsus4 / |

You can play a D5 right at the end, if you wish, by fretting the top string @ 5th fret....Eddie does :)

The two G chords are fingered differently. With that in mind, here is tab for each of the chords:

The picking is played with a thumb and two fingers, with the thumb alternating between strings. I've included tab in the video, to get you started.

NOTE: In the video I suggest alternating bass lines on C and G chords - but Eddie simply stays on the root notes (5th string on C and 6th string on G). Apologies for stating the F/Dm is a A#M7...most folks find it easier to regard it that way (for remembering where to place fingers), but it is factually incorrect. Same with the E/C, which I state is an Am7 :)

Here is how to play it:

..and here is my version :)
